CONSUME

  • Regular meals with balance of starchy foods, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat protein

AVOID

  • Fatty foods, tomato-based products, chocolates, alcohol, caffeine, and peppermint which can cause acid reflux.
  • Spicy foods if they irritate you
  • Frequent use of aspirin or other arthritis pain relievers.

AVOID SPICY OR ACIDIC  FOODS : Although foods are not the cause of gastritis, people with symptoms should avoid spicy or highly acidic foods, which can irritate the stomach lining. They should also avoid fatty foods, tomato-based products, chocolate, beverages containing caffeine, decaffeinated rea and coffee, peppermint, and alcohol. These foods  relax the valve between the stomach and esophagus and make it easier for the stomach contents to back up into the esophagus, causing further irritation.

     If you need a pain reliever, ask your doctor to prescribe a nonirritating alternative to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) . For gastritis caused by H. pylori, the docotr may prescirbe antibiotics, Antacids can sometimes soothe the irritation until the inflammartion subsides.
