CHERRIES

CHERRIES

BENEFIT

  • Low-calories, almost fat-free snack or dessert.
  • High in pectin, a soluble fiber that lowers cholesterol.

DRAWBACKS

  •  Can provoke allergic reactions in susceptible people
  • They spoil quickly and are available for only a few weeks in the summer.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE : One cup (250 ml) of sweet or sour cherries contains about 130 calories. Both are a source of beta carotene, vitamin C, and potassium, but sour cherries are much higher in beta carotene. Cherries are a good source of pectin, a soluble fiber that helps control blood cholesterol levels. Cherries are also an abundant source of quercetin, a flavonoid with anticarecinogenic and antioxidant activities.
