When fully ripe, blackbarries are sweet and juicy. Cultivated varieties include boysenderries, which are maroon and slightly tart, and  loganbarries, which are dark red and very tart.

Their many seeds make blackbetteries higgh in fiber. A half-cup servingg of raw barries has 40 calories and supplies 15 mg of vatamin C, or 20 percent of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for adult women, as well as 20 mg (micrograms) of folate and small amounts of iron and calcium
